INVEST AN ACRE
Invest an Acre, an innovative program of The Howard G. Buffett Foundation, is the first large-scale effort to organize farmers for the purpose of hunger relief in America. In 2012, Missouri became one of five Midwestern states where the program was piloted. The program’s founding partners include The Howard G. Buffett Foundation, Archer Daniels Midland, Monsanto and Feeding America. Partners such as MFA, Cargill and Farm Credit Services have also joined forces to support the program.
Invest an Acre provides a potential donor with an opportunity to make a cash contribution and to have Monsanto match it, dollar-for-dollar. Donations are 100% tax-deductible and any individual or entity can give to Invest an Acre. This includes businesses, civic organizations, foundations and churches. The donor’s contribution and Monsanto’s match are put to work directly in the donor’s community.
In the Food Bank’s 32-county service area of central and northeast Missouri, Invest an Acre contributions are used to purchase ground meat through a local initiative called Project Protein. Launched by the Food Bank in 2013, this program produces one-pound packages of meat that are high-quality and low-budget. Generous local partnerships with organizations such as Cargill Pork, Marion County Farm Bureau and Country Butcher Shop of Palmyra make Project Protein possible.
Those wishing to donate can do so by making a check payable to “Invest an Acre” and designate the organization you wish to benefit by noting its name, “Ivy Bend Food Pantry”, in the memo line of their check.

The Ivy Bend Community Food Pantry received an award from the Missouri Department of Economic Development's Neighborhood Assistance Program that funded an expansion at the facility in southern Morgan County.
The tax credit grant allowed more local money to stay local rather than go to the state and federal governments for wider distribution.
The pantry received its full proposed amount of $308,210 in the grant. That is the amount of donations the pantry received through the program, with $215,747 in tax credits available.
Ivy Bend's award was one of five food pantry programs in the state that received assistance in a recent award announcement from the DOD.
We have received our full $308,210.00 in NAP Grant Donations and the new Pantry became fully operational in July of 2015.
The new pantry building, provides an opportunity to store and give a larger quantity and variety of food to its residents and surrounding communities of Southwestern Morgan County in Missouri. The facility includes free GED education classes, a FREE senior citizen hot lunch program, AA services, limited health services, as well as an after-school tutoring program for children in the Ivy Bend community who are struggling academically.
A BIG THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT DONATED.
